Google acquired GrandCentral

Google today officially announced that they have acquired GrandCentral - an online phone management service. The acquisition is done for an undisclosed price, but BTI it's about 50$ million range.

Now, Google are about moving the service to Google's network without interrupted existing users of GrandCentral service. And in the meantime, GrandCentral switched back to private beta (just like GreenBorder), and only "a limited number of users will be able to sign up for an invitation to participate in continued beta-testing of the service", and YES we have to wait until Google announce "We are Ready".

As usual, Google has a FAQ page for those who are interested in the deal, so here you go.

What's GrandCentral. According to Google Official Blog, they describe:
GrandCentral offers many features that complement the phone services you already use. If you have multiple phone numbers (e.g., home, work, cell), you get one phone number that you can set to ring all, some, or none of your phones, based on who's calling. This way, your phone number is tied to you, and not your location or job. The service also gives you one central voice mailbox. You can listen to your voicemails online or from any phone, forward them to anybody, add the caller to your address book, block a caller as spam, and a lot more. You can even listen in on voicemail messages from your phone while they are being recorded, or switch a call from your cell phone to your desk phone and back again. All in all, you'll have a lot more control over your phones.

In announcing of the acquisition, "We think GrandCentral's technology fits well into Google's efforts to provide services that enhance the collaborative exchange of information between our users", said by Google product manager Wesley Chan. So the GrandCentral technology can be integrated with GTalk, or may be available as a peparate service of Google. It's not so clear to talk about that at the moment, but either way happened it will benefit both existing users of Google and GrandCentral.
